12 Miles Run Sunday 1 Hour 35:44 Pace 7:58 per Mile

As I’m entering the half marathon next week the 13th march 2011 I decided to run this 12 miler at 8 min per mile pace. I also had my brand new Garmin 305 and I’m so happy I got it. I did a test walk yesterday walking the dog through some woodlands and the GPS signal didn’t disappoint.

I used the Garmin 305 for this run and also took my Nike+ to test them both but I forgot to plug the Nike+ receiver in so I could only track with the Garmin. (Duh)

The Garmin records so much more data than Nike+ and I personally think it shows the data better. Take a look below at the stats Garmin shows.

The Garmin also has a cool feature that lets you put in time, distance and pace and you can race against it and it shows you how far your in front or behind. I won the race today by 14 seconds. I was surprised I only won by 14 seconds as I had a few fast laps but it just goes to show that keeping pace is the best option for running.

I’m going to do an in depth Garmin 305 Review later this week after I have tested it on a few more runs.

I pretty much stayed on pace 8:00 per mile and it felt quite tough towards the end but that’s because around the 6 mile mark I had other runners in front of me and so being very competitive I speeded up and this was for around 2 miles where my pace went from 8 min miles to just over 7 minutes per mile. I also at one point was running around 5:42 per mile. (If only I could keep that pace up)

The last 3 miles were then pretty tough and so I have learned a valuable beginner running mistake and that is to stick to my pace and not try and compete with every runner I see.

Because my last 3 miles were tough it slowed my average time so each mile was getting slower. 8:13, 8:14, and 8:33 If I had to run more miles I would have probably gave up or been even slower.
