6 Mile Canal Run – Calves Sore

I ran a canal run today and was aiming to run 8 miles but felt my calves a little tight so wasn’t sure if I should be running or resting. I ended up running 6 miles and the 1st mile took it steady as my calf’s felt fine so I quickened the pace for the next mile but then struggled to maintain the pace. I also found a steep hill which I ran up twice on the way back so that did slow my overall pace down.

My calves overall feel fine now but I think there is a slight twitch so I will have to take it easy for a few days and just keeping an eye on them.

I really find canal runs boring although they are flat I think I prefer the streets to run round.

Also just had confirmation that I didn’t get accepted into the London Marathon for 2012. I can probably get through using a charity but I don’t think I could raise the money for them as it’s nearly £2000 if I were to run for NSPCA.

New Running Goal

I think I really want to focus on half marathons and really get my speed up. My new goal is to finish a half marathon in sub 1:30 which is (6:52 per mile). I have done quite a few runs where I hit the 6:50 mark but now I just need to work on sustaining that half marathon pace which will be a difficult task but one that I should be able to hit.

I also went to a running club and ran with a group for the 1st time and although the pace wasn’t too tough, we did run round bestwood park and the hills were very tough which again will help me to get faster.
