Fast 5 Miles With 1 Mile Warm Up – Consistent Pace When Running

Today my back was feeling much better and I had a great night’s sleep so I decided to run today and myasics said I had 5.5 mile fast run. I was supposed to run between 7:31 and 7:50 so I started the 1st mile as a warm up and did that comfortably in around 8:14.

I then proceeded to up the pace and I was running quite comfortably and looked down at my Garmin and it read 6:40 per mile so I thought it’s a fast run and this pace seems okay at the minute I wonder how long I could sustain the pace for? So I tried to keep the pace for 5 miles. I did stop a few times but I stopped the Garmin 305 watch, this was mostly due to traffic lights which I hate when running as they take forever to change to the green man, cars pulling out on me and also towards the end I think I stopped 3-4 times for 15-20 seconds for a little breather and a stretch in my calves as they were feeling a little tight towards the end.

I did feel a little bad for pausing the watch and having a few breathers but I also was happy that I managed to crank out some really good fast miles and I even had a few uphill’s.

Below are my mile splits and the time I was actually moving according to Garmin;

6.07 miles in 41:27

  1. 8:14  per mile
  2. 6:35 per mile
  3. 6:42 per mile
  4. 6:41 per mile
  5. 6:45 per mile
  6. 6:47 per mile
  7. 0:24 per mile

So the miles are really good and they seem to stay consistent with each other so I was keeping the pace up.

I did this run in my Green Silence Running Trainers which are designed to be a racing shoe, however I’m not sure I like them anymore as they seem to give me blisters every time I wear them. I did try and put Vaseline on my feet beforehand as it worked when I wore my Asics. I may look into trying some alternatives for stopping blisters as they still seem to be my biggest problem with running.
