New Sub 40 Minutes 10k Program – Hard To Find
Since my Robin Hood Marathon I’ve been running on and off now for the last few weeks and didn’t really have any focus as I was waiting for the London marathon ballot (sadly didn’t get in). I’ve been getting a little depressed not having a goal so I needed to find some races.
My girlfriend is a massive Shakespeare fan and I managed to suggest that there is a half marathon in Shakespeare land (Stratford upon Avon) and she said I should do it as we can both stay over the night before and explore and then I run on the Sunday. I’ve now signed up for that race however it’s on April 29th 2012 which is quite a way away.
So I’m still feeling a little upset and so I decided to enter a 10k race which will be the 20th November 2011. Brilliant much closer and a time of 8 weeks to see if I can go from running my last 10k which I went out the blocks way too quick and suffered mile and mile to running this new one and running a sub 40 minute 10k.
I believe that I can definitely do this goal as I have ran 32:12 for 5 miles before and felt good doing it.
I managed to spend a few hours trying to find a sub 40 min 10k running program but found it difficult. I wanted one that could be downloaded to my Garmin 305 and it will have all my times that I run each run. However finding one is very difficult, I found one on runners world that way sub 45 min 10k and downloaded to Garmin but the paces seem too slow for me.
After getting fed up trying to find a 10k sub 40 running program I just went and downloaded the one from runners world and now went to another site that if you put your recent times in it shows you how fast you should be running each run such as fast runs, slow runs, tempos, etc, so now I’m having to manually change the Garmin 10k sub 40 program to suit me. Although this is not what I wanted I’m hoping that I will eventually find myself one.
1st Run New 10k Sub 40 Training Program
1st run was an easy 5 miles around 8:20 pace. I’ve got 8 weeks till my next 10k race and I’m trying to get sub 40 minutes. Found it really good and felt comfortable running today, however this weird UK weather is so hot outside I was starting to get hot from the heat but still found I could have kept going all day at this pace.
Mile splits; 8:23 8:20 8:18 8:08 8:17
I really enjoyed this run today and I’m so happy to finally be following a running program again, it really does help you to get out the door and run more.
