To Run Or Not To Run – Achilles Pain Ended Up Doing 8.5 Miles In 1:02:16
So after my easy run the other day I started to feel slight pain in my Achilles tendon so took 2 days off running to try and ease it. I woke up today and decided to try and run but I would make sure I took it easy.
I picked a canal route as its flat so there would be no hills and I could just concentrate on my pace. I started to run very slow and I could feel a slight twinge in Achilles so I stopped and walked a bit and then decided to stretch. Stretching seemed to make it go away so I continued on with my run. I kept it fairly slow for the 1st couple of miles with 8:49 for the 1st mile.
I made sure to stretch the calve muscles, both lower and upper and this really helped and I didn’t notice any pain in my achilles tendon. So Continued running and made sure to keep stretching every mile or when my calves where tight.
I managed to run 8.5 miles but found out when I got home that I was only scheduled to run 5.5 miles. My Achilles pain didn’t feel bad so I’ve got Saturday off to rest and then Sunday I will be running 13.1 miles. I’m going to run round the 1st part of the Robin Hood marathon so I can get used to it and know where the hills are.
Running Along The Canals

Running along canals but not as nice as this canal
Running along the canal is really nice and very peaceful, you have no traffic, no stopping at roads, traffic lights. No one gets in your way I would probably say running 8.5 miles today along the canal I must have seen a dozen people and that was it. Also across the canal were ducks and the owners of the house had called the vets and they were examining the ducks but I didn’t stop to be nosy I just kept running but it’s nice to see people trying to help nature.
I also want to know if any of you have suffered from Achilles pain before and how did you treat it? I realize the maybe I’m carrying on running when really I should be resting. What are your thoughts?
